How Do Scientists Use Their Observations?
Procedure
-
Observe the liquid that your teacher gives you. Record your observations.
CAUTION:
Do not touch or drink the liquid.
-
Use scissors and a metric ruler to cut a 5-cm square of aluminum foil. Loosely crumple the foil and drop it into the liquid.
-
Use a stirring rod to push the foil below the surface of the liquid. Observe and record any changes that occur in the liquid and foil.
Think About It
-
Posing Questions
Write three questions about the materials or the changes that you observed.
-
Designing Experiments
What could you do with the same or other materials to discover an answer to one of your questions?
-
Communication
Share your proposed experiments with your classmates. What results would you expect to observe?
