Chapter 12 Key Vocabulary and Concept Review
'Equal' is part of Properties of Equality. The properties of equality say that you can add, subtract, multiply, or divide both sides of an equation by the same number, and the sides stay equal.(But you can’t divide by 0.) Self Check
Solve equations. (Lessons 12-1, 12-2, 12-3)
Use Properties of Equality and inverse operations to solve each equation
t + 17 = 83.
c – 72 = 19
216 = 8s
t + 17 – 17 = 83 –17 c – 72 + 72 = 19 + 72
t = 66
c = 91
27 = s
m = 294
1.
Solve n – 34 = 52 and 5y = 70.
Self Check
 Order, add, and subtract integers. (Lessons 12-5, 12-6, 12-7)
 Integers are the whole numbers and their
 opposites. You can use a number line to  picture positive and negative integers.
Order 0, -1, +4, and -5 from
least to greatest.
Refer to the number line.
From least to greatest, the
integers are: -5, -1, 0, +4.
 Find +1 + -4.
 Picture the addition
 on a number line.
Find -5 – -2.
Add the opposite of the
integer being subtracted.
Positive and negative are opposites
-5 – -2 = +5 + +2 =+7
 +1 + -4 = -3
2.
Order +2, -6, +7, and -8 from least to greatest and find -5 + -4, -8 –
-3,and -6 + +2.
Negative integers, -1, -2, -3, and so on, are the opposites of positive integers, 1, 2, 3, and so on
