MODEL I see that in 1542, Juan Cabrillo came to California. That's what I'll put first. People from Spain moved to California after that. The clue words tell me that is what happened next. Then I see that in 1841, farmers started coming to California. That must be the third event on the chart.
MODEL I can use dates and clue words to help me. The third paragraph says people started coming to California to get rich after 1848. Juan Cabrillo traveled to California in 1542. Farmers moved to California in 1841. The year 1542 comes first, so that is the event that happened first.
