For activities to develop
vocabulary,
see a summary of the
book Teaching
Vocabulary in all
Classrooms by Scott
Foresman
author Camille Blachowicz
and Peter Fisher.
Train early
finishers
to pull out a book and read.
To
make this a routine, at first allow
enough time with tasks that you
know
everyone will finish early. If
work is neat and complete, they
can
read.
Explicit instruction is teaching in
which the teacher explains a skill
(what it is and when and why to use
it), models how to perform it, guides
practice, and offers independent
practice.
Be sure to schedule
time for students
to
work on the unit
inquiry project "Natural
Wonders."
This week students
analyze
the
information they have
found from
Web sites or print
materials.
