PRETEST
Use the Dictation Sentences from Day 5 to administer the pretest. Read the word, read the sentence, and then read the word again. Guide students in self-correcting their pretests and correcting any misspellings.

WRITE A STORY
Ask students to write a brief story using as many of the spelling words as possible. The story might be about a personal experience or a work of fiction.
These words may seem easy
to spell, but they are frequently misspelled by fourth-graders.
Alert students to these
frequently misspelled words.
Point out that I and I'm are
always capitalized.

REVIEW MULTISYLLABIC WORDS
Have each student create a wordscramble puzzle in which the syllables in each word are out of order. Then have them exchange puzzles with a partner to sort out the syllables to form words.

Problem Parts
Help your students use syllables to make long words easier to study. First, have them say the word slowly and listen for the syllables. Next, have them write the word and draw lines between the syllables.
Finally, encourage them to study the word syllable by syllable.
