Test Tip
When in doubt about whether a word is an adverb, ask yourself
if the word tells you something about the verb. In the following sentences, for example, the
word fast is used in two ways.
She ran fast.
She is a fast runner.
By asking How did she run?
you will answer She ran fast. That tells you that fast is an adverb in the first sentence. In the second sentence, fast is
an adjective describing the
noun runner.
