VOCABULARY STRATEGY
Context Clues
Target Skill
MULTIPLE-MEANING WORDS Remind students that they can use context clues to determine the meaning of multiple-meaning words. Have students list any unknown words they encountered as they read If You Made a Million. They can create a chart showing the unknown word, helpful context clues, and their definition of the word based on its context. Students can confirm word meanings using a dictionary.

BUILD CONCEPT VOCABULARY
Saving
LOOKING BACK Remind students of the focus
question of the week: How does money work?
Discuss how this week's Concept Web of
vocabulary words relates to the theme of saving.
Ask students if they have any words or categories
to add. Discuss whether words and categories are
appropriately related to the concept.
MOVING FORWARD Preview the title of the next
selection, My Rows and Piles of Coins. Ask
students which Concept Web words might apply
to the new selection based on the title alone. Put
a star next to these words on the web.
Display the Concept Web and revisit the vocabulary
words as you read the next selection to check
predictions.

Rehearsal Tips
SPEAKING
Presentation
SET-UP Have students use bills and coins to demonstrate the value of money by exchanging various forms of money for one another.
VISUAL AIDS Provide speakers with play money to use as visuals for their presentation. If possible, give students 10 one-dollar bills, 4 five-dollar bills, 2 ten-dollar bills and 1 twenty-dollar bill, and 25 pennies, 5 nickels, 5 dimes, and 2 quarters.
REHEARSAL Provide time for students to rehearse their presentations aloud. Individuals or partners can practice exchanging various amounts of money as if they were bank tellers or store clerks.
LISTENING
Listen to Presentation

  2. What are some details that support the main idea? (Responses will vary but will include money exchange examples.)
