Use the Strategy
  1. The next time you encounter
    a Web page that has a lot of
    text, use the "find" feature to
    navigate to a keyword or term.
  2. When you get to the Web
    page, click on the "find"
    feature" or use a keystroke
    shortcut to access the "find"
    window.
  3. Enter your keyword and press
    RETURN. You will be taken to
    the word you entered.
USE THE "FIND" FEATURE
Explain to students that once they
navigate to a particular Web site,
they can use the "find" feature to
locate specific words. This strategy
helps them find the information they
are looking for quickly. Often the
"find" feature may be accessed by
clicking a pulldown menu at the top
of a Web browser. The "find" feature
is often accessible by using a
keystroke shortcut such as
[CTRL + f]. If you want to find the
next instance of the same word, you
can use the pulldown menu to click
on a label such as "find again."

Suppose your goal is a new pair of sneakers that
costs $48, and you earn $12 a week mowing
lawns. What’s your plan? How quickly do you
want those sneakers?
Let’s say you need a goal,
so you click on Tip 1.
Plan 1 If you save $6 a
week, it will take you eight
weeks to save enough to buy
them (6 x 8 = 48). Are you
patient enough to wait nearly
two months?
Plan 2 If you save $12 a week,
you can buy the sneakers in
only four weeks (4 x 12 = 48). That’s twice as fast! But then
you won’t have any extra
spending money during those
four weeks. Which goal would
you set? It’s up to you.
