Reread for Fluency
MODEL Read aloud p. 3 of the Leveled Reader
One Chili Pepper, emphasizing appropriate
phrasing. Have students notice pausing at commas
and reading chunks of words. Discuss how reading in
chunks will help them better understand what they are
reading.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from One Chili Pepper with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Assess any students you have not yet checked during this unit.
