PRACTICE Think about the ways you use e-mail at home and at school.
In what ways can e-mail help you with your homework, or with research?
The next time you access the Internet, compose a brief letter requesting information about something you are studying in school or are simply curious about. Be sure you follow correct letter format in your message.
Use the Strategy
Think about from whom you usually receive e-mail— friends, family, newsgroups, and so on. Create a folder for each category, or each person.
To create a new folder, look for an "Add" link or an "Add folder" link in your e-mail program and click once on it.
Type the name of the new folder in the prompt window and click "OK" or "Add folder."
USE FOLDERS Folders for each person or each type of e-mail you receive can help keep you organized and can help you find the information you need quickly and easily.

Discuss Francisco's big mistake and how he could have used this information effectively when he worked for Mr. Benjamin. Then have students share their ideas about how he can use this new information in his next job. Write their ideas on the board.
Writing Across TextsRemind students to use correct letter format when they write their letter. Point out that although they don't need to be very formal because Francisco is young, like they are, they don't want to be too familiar, either, since they don't know him.
