TEACH
The /l/ sound at the end of a word
is often spelled -le. Write the
spelling words on the board. Ask students what all the words have in common. They should answer that
all the words end in -le. Have
students say several words out
loud and guide them to identify the
/l/ sound in the final syllable of each word.

FIND THE PATTERN Ask students to come up with other words that end in -le and have the /l/ sound. Provide a hint by suggesting they think of words that rhyme with the spelling words.

WRITE A LIST
Have students write a list using at least three spelling words. The topic could be a shopping list, a list of things to do, or a list of favorite things.
