Target Skill SKILL MAIN IDEA The main idea of a story
is what the story is all about. Details, or little pieces of information, in the story can help you understand what the story's main idea is.
Target Skill STRATEGY MONITOR AND FIX UP To monitor means
to stop occasionally, and check to be sure you understand what you're reading. Fix up means to do something if you don't understand or are confused. For example, if you're not sure what a story's main idea is, stop and ask yourself, "What are the important details in this story so far?" Summarizing the important details can help you figure out the main idea.
SKILL EXPRESSION/INTONATION Reading with expression means reading the words as if you were the character. Intonation means that you use different tones of voice to show surprise, happiness, or other emotions.
