Listen to William's House and "Log Cabins" as you follow or read along in your book. As you listen, draw conclusions about each selection.
If there is anything you don't understand, you can listen again to any section.

Select a book you have already read. Record the title of the book in your reading log. You may want to read with a partner.
You may choose to read any of the following:
- Leveled Readers
- ELL Readers
- Stories written by classmates
- Books from the library
- William's House
TEN IMPORTANT SENTENCES Read the Ten Important Sentences for William's House. Then locate the sentences in the Student Edition.
BOOK CLUB Discuss how people in different areas used available materials to build homes and establish communities.

- Read the sentences below.
- One of the words or phrases in parentheses completes it correctly.
- Rewrite the sentences using the correct word or words.

Write a friendly letter to William and Elizabeth, the characters in William's House.
- Put today's date on your letter.
- Describe some things about homes today that are the same as they were in 1637.
- Tell William and Elizabeth about things that are different, such as running water and electricity.
- If you wish, tell them about things we have today that would have made their lives easier, such as washing machines and power tools.
EARLY FINISHERS Draw a picture of your "dream home" to include with the letter.

Research different kinds of homes.
- Choose one type of home that interests you.
- Look in a library book or online to learn about the home.
- Draw and label a picture of the home.
- From the information you gathered, write four facts about the home below your picture.
EARLY FINISHERS Draw pictures of furniture you would put inside the home if it belonged to you. Be creative!
MATERIALS

Use lesson vocabulary to write a paragraph about the past.
- Use what you have learned about life in 1637 to write a paragraph about the past. Use some of the lesson vocabulary words: spoil, barrels, cellar, steep, pegs, and clearing.
- Use the grammar and spelling check features to proofread what you have written. Name and save the document.
EARLY FINISHERS Write a second paragraph using the following spelling words: father, watch, weather, and catch.
