MODEL Read pp. 3–4 of the Leveled Reader Katy’s Last-Minute Book Report, emphasizing appropriate expression and intonation. Have students note how your voice changes to convey expression and tone. Discuss how reading with appropriate expression and intonation makes the story and characters more understandable and enjoyable.
PRACTICE Have individuals reread passages from Katy’s Last-Minute Book Report with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Assess the fluency of students in this group using p. 223a.
Revisit Leveled Reader Collecting Dreams
