Target Skill SKILL GENERALIZE A generalization is a statement
that tells how several things or a group of things are
alike. For example, the statement All birds have
wings
is a generalization because it tells how all
birds are alike. Often, clue words such as most,
many, all,
or few signal that a statement is a
generalization.
Target Skill STRATEGY ANSWER QUESTIONS To make
generalizations as you read, ask and answer questions about how people, places, animals, or things may be alike.
SKILL ACCURACY AND APPROPRIATE PACE/RATE Accuracy means identifying words correctly as you read and reading without omitting or substituting words. Reading at an appropriate pace and rate means that you read at a speed that makes the words and sentences clear and understandable.
