periods and group related words together in meaningful
phrases. Discuss how reading with appropriate
phrasing will help students better understand
what they read.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from

with a partner or individually. For
optimal fluency, students should reread three or four
times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide
corrective feedback. Use p. 353a to assess the
fluency of students in this group.
