Reread for Fluency
MODEL Read aloud p. 4 of the Leveled
Reader A Day with the Dogs, emphasizing
accuracy and reading at an appropriate pace. Have
students note how you read all the words correctly and
read neither too slowly nor too quickly. Discuss how
reading with accuracy at an appropriate pace will
help students keep their train of thought and note all
important information.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from A
Day with the Dogs
with a partner or individually. For
optimal fluency, students should reread three or four
times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide
corrective feedback. Students in this group were
assessed in Week 3.
