Reread for Fluency
MODEL Read aloud p. 5 of the Leveled
Reader Fun with Science!, pausing after complete thoughts, such as at the end of phrases and sentences. Have students note how you pause after each comma. Discuss how pausing while you read makes it easier for listeners to understand the text.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from Fun with Science! with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Assess the fluency of students in this group using p. 85a.
