WRITE DIRECTIONS
Have students write directions to
a place in their neighborhood,
using as many list words as
possible. Students can then use
their directions to create a map.
Post the maps and directions on
the bulletin board to share them
with the class.
These words, like other homophones, can be hard to
spell because they sound
alike but have different
spellings. Alert students to
these frequently misspelled
words and encourage them to
think carefully before they
write them.

REVIEW HOMOPHONES
Have students work individually or in pairs to create a matching game including the spelling words. Students can write the pairs of homophones into lists to be matched. Then have students exchange and solve each other's games.
Spelling Strategy
Sound Alike Words
Have students think of the meaning of a homophone before they write it. The meaning can help them remember the correct spelling.
