MODEL Read aloud p. 3 of the Leveled Reader Dressed for School Success, emphasizing accuracy, appropriate pace, rate, and expression. Have students note that you read all the words at the appropriate pace and rate. Point out that your voice changed at question marks. Discuss how a selection may be misunderstood if the words and sentences aren’t read correctly with accuracy, appropriate pace, rate, and expression.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from Dressed for School Success with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Students in this group are assessed in Week 3.
Revisit Leveled Reader The Japanese Language
RETELL Have students retell what they learned from the Leveled Reader The Japanese Language.
NOW TRY THIS Have students complete and present their kanji character charts. Discuss what they learned about kanji by copying these characters.
