emphasizing appropriate pace and expression. Have students note that you spoke clearly and included all the words as you read. Discuss how reading with accuracy at the appropriate pace and with proper expression will help students better understand the selections they read.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from Signs, Songs, and Symbols of America with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Students in this group are assessed in Week 3.
