Read Leveled Reader Glass Blowing
Glass BlowingREINFORCE CONCEPTS This week's concept is freedom to create. People want to be free to make and do things that are important to them. What do you like to make? What is your
favorite activity? Are you free to do these things? Explain.
BEFORE READING Using the Picture Walk Routine on p. DI•1, guide students through the text focusing on key concepts and vocabulary. Ask questions such as:
pp. 8–9 This book is about the art of glassblowing. The first step is to melt the ingredients. What do glassblowers need for this? (fire)
Read pp. 3–4 aloud. Then do a choral reading of pp. 5–8. Have students read and discuss the remainder of the book with a partner. Ask: What are some things created with glass?

RELATED WORDS Tell students that many words are similar. Write imagine and image. How do you pronounce the first word? (imagine) What does imagine mean? (to picture something in your mind) How is the second word similar to the first? (It looks like the beginning of imagine.) An image is a picture of something or someone. Imagine can help me understand what image means. Blend and read each word and have students blend the words with you.
