Reread for Fluency
MODEL Read aloud pp. 3–5 of the Leveled Reader Glass Blowing. Have students
note how you read all the words with expression and pacing. Then read pp. 3–5 in a monotone. Have students tell you which model was better. Discuss how students should read with expression and pacing to better understand the selection.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from Glass Blowing with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, they should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Assess any students you have not yet checked during this unit.
