Reread for Fluency
MODEL Read aloud p. 3 of the Leveled Reader
Traditional Crafts of Mexico, emphasizing
expression and proper rate. Have students note
that you read with expression and at a rate that was
not too fast or too slow. Discuss how reading at the
appropriate rate with expression will help them
understand and remember what they read.
PRACTICE Have students reread passages from Traditional Crafts of Mexico with a partner or individually. For optimal fluency, students should reread three or four times. As students read, monitor fluency and provide corrective feedback. Assess any students you have not yet checked during this unit.
